FYCH: making recycled plastics more attractive

FYCH Technologies took part in the circular economy pilot, looking at how recycled plastics could be used in products that people would actually value. Citizens repeatedly linked acceptance to two basic conditions: price and performance. Recycled plastic should be affordable and should work as well as conventional materials. Environmental benefits were important, but they were not seen as enough on their own.

Citizens also suggested new applications, especially for products that are easily lost or thrown away, such as some types of packaging. They wanted products to perform as well as conventional materials and not cost significantly more. Trust was also important. Participants asked for clear information, independent certification and better traceability. One practical idea was to use a QR code to explain where the material comes from and how it should be disposed of.
