nferIA: building trust into AI
InferIA explored an AI-based local assistant that could provide information about events, places, mobility and local services. Citizens saw clear value in this type of tool, particularly when it helps with everyday needs. They also suggested practical uses such as reporting problems in public spaces and finding local work opportunities.
But trust was the key issue. Participants did not want their data to be sold to private companies, and they drew a clear line between reporting problems such as potholes and reporting other people’s behaviour.
They wanted the AI to explain its recommendations, provide links to sources and avoid unwanted messages. Accessibility was also seen as essential, so that the service would work for people with different levels of digital experience.
